Pastor Pointer
Rev. Lawrence Pointer served in youth ministry for more than seven years at the Oakdale Covenant Church of Chicago. While at Oakdale, Rev. Pointer developed a fresh start class entitled New Beginnings. This class was designed for teens that have in someway fallen and desired to work their way back into their youth ministry.
In the year 2000, Rev. Pointer created The Teens of Praises (T.O.P.). This group has evolved into a multicultural praise team, who are not only talented singers but peer leaders.
They look and dress like every other teenager, but when they open their mouths to praise and worship, preach and teach, share and have fun, the ability to exemplify to other teens that they can praise God and live a happy , moral life. T.O.P.'s musical style is Contemporary Gospel/Gospel R&B and has been described as a cross between
Walt Whitman and the Soul Children and Kirk Franklin.
Rev. Pointer's passion for young people compelled him to go beyond the walls of the church to develop ministries that enhance the growth of all who participate. In 2001, Head 2 Toe JAM Ministries (H2T) was birthed. H2T is a non-profit organization, in which Rev. Pointer is Founder and Executive Director, that empowers children and teens to choose life that is socially, spiritually, economically, and physically balanced. This organization emphasizes peers reaching peers because when teens see that it is still cool to participate in positive activities and still be a teen, they are more likely to continue that positive lifestyle.
In 2003, Rev. Pointer began to share his gifts with Beverly Covenant Church where he assisted with developing and increasing teen relationships with Christ. In addition, he extends his outreach to Word and Faith Outreach Ministry, a new church, where he
is assisting the leadership in laying the foundation for youth ministry and building personal relationships with Christ among teens.
In 2005, God moved Rev. Pointer to another level in ministry by calling him to pastor a church plant, New Jerusalem Life Covenant Church. Pastor Pointer has also decided to continue his education in North Park Theological Seminary completing his Master
of Divinity degree.
Pastor Pointer says, " I am just another vessel through which God's kingdom work will be fulfilled".
As God changed Abram's name to Abraham to symbolize his new level in blessings, God has given us a new name change to
The City Of Truth Covenant Church to encourage people to Live Free, to Live Focused and Live Forever.
God continues to use Pastor Pointer to do marvelous works in many communities.
